چکیده
The core concept of phylogenetic systematics is the use of derived or apomorphic characters to reconstruct common ancestry relationships and the grouping of taxa based on common ancestry. This concept, first formalized by Hennig (1950, 1966), has been slowly, and not so quietly, changing the nature of systematics. Why should we be interested in this approach? What about phylogenetic systematics is different from traditional systematics? The answer is simple: classifications that are not known to be phylogenetic are possibly artificial and are, therefore, useful only for identification and not for asking questions about evolution. There are two other means of making statements of relationship: traditional systematics and phenetics. Traditional systematic methods employ intuition. In practical terms, intuition is character weighting. The scientist studies a group of organisms, selects the character(s) believed to be important (i.e., conservative), and delimits species and groups of species based on these characters. Disagreements usually arise when different scientists think different characters are important. It is difficult to evaluate the evolutionary significance of groups classified by intuition because we do not know why they were created or whether they represent anything real in nature. Because these groups may not be defined at all or may be defined by characters that have no evolutionary significance, such groups may be artificial. Phenetics is an attempt to devise an empirical method for determining taxonomic

Species diversity and catch per unit effort (CPUE) of Gobiidae in Salmanshahr, coastal area of the southern Caspian Sea
The gobies are non-commercial fishes in the Iranian waters of the Caspian Sea for which population dynamics and stock status are poorly known. In this survey, we tried to define species diversity and catch per unit effort (CPUE) of Gobiidae by using beach seine nets in Salmanshahr, the southern Caspian Sea. From March 2011 to April 2012, 224 specimens representing 4 gobiid species, belonging to...

Population dynamics indices of parasites infected on cultured ornamental fishes according to the climatic changes in kurunagala district,Sri Lanka were estimated.Sample of gold fishes and koi carps which were harvested from mud ponds in ornamental fish breeding and traning center was examined for ecto parasites. Four population indices were calculated for each abundant parasite species and dive...
متن کاملSpecific composition and morphological peculiarities of endemic monogenean parasites of freshwater fishes of Iran
Result obtained during ten years research work (1990-2000) on distribution of monogenean fauna Iranian fishes indicates that its composition of monogenean fauna of Iranian fishes depends on their habit and since Iran includes three different zoogeographical zones with highly endemic fish hosts, its monogenean parasites have specific composition. The Caspian fauna is characterized by relatively ...
متن کاملThe importance of sound effect assessment in the Iranian freshwater endemic fishes
Endemic fishes are part of the genetic resources in aquatic habitats. The Caspian Sea, as the largest lake in the world, has a unique habitat diversity and is of great importance for the countries of the region. Over the recent decades, with the increase in the level of anthropogenic sound, its effects on freshwater and marine fishes have been considered by fisheries managers and stakeholders. ...
متن کاملStudy on the parasites of Pseudorhombus elevatus, Psettodes erumei and Brachirus orientalis from the Persian Gulf, Iran
The Persian Gulf is of great economical, environmental and political importance, and includes around 205 species of fishes that only some of them have been studied parasitologically. From the order Pleuronectiformes ( ray-finned fishes), Psettodes erumei (Psettodidae), Pseudorhombus elevatus (Bothidae) and Brachirus orientalis (Soleidae) were selected for the survey. One hundred and forty eig...
متن کاملThe species composition and nutrition of dominant species of fish of Absheron Gulfs of the Caspian Sea
The analysis of net catches made in Absheron Gulfs of the Caspian Sea during 2011-2012 is provided. The ichthyofauna of Absheron Gulfs, including 26 species found in the North Gulf, and 33 species and subspecies found in the South Gulf was studied for the first time. A taxonomical and ecological diversity of the fish fauna of North and South Absheron Gulfs is characterized. The peculiarities of...
